macOS 14.2 or newer
macOS 14.2 is the floor. Meeting audio is captured through the Core Audio process-tap interface the operating system provides, gated by the standard Audio Capture permission.
Apple Silicon
The preview is built for Apple Silicon (M1 and later). Transcription runs locally on the Neural-Engine-class hardware those Macs ship with. Intel Macs are not supported.
Room for your recordings
Recordings live in your Application Support folder as WAV files. Both source tracks are kept so you can retranscribe a meeting later, which means audio is the thing that takes up space.
Installing it
Three steps, and the last one is just starting a meeting.
Download the .dmg
Grab the preview build and open the disk image. It is a normal macOS installer image, with no helper tool and no background service.
Drag JesRecap to Applications
Move the app into your Applications folder and open it like any other app. The build is Developer ID signed and Apple-notarised, so macOS opens it without warnings.
Start your first recording
Hit record. macOS asks for the Audio Capture permission at this point. Approve it once and JesRecap can hear the other side of the call from then on.
The Audio Capture permission, explained
It is the one prompt JesRecap needs, and it is the reason no bot has to join your call.
What it lets JesRecap do
macOS treats "the audio another app is playing" as protected, the same way it protects your screen and your microphone. Granting Audio Capture lets JesRecap tap the audio your meeting app plays through your speakers, so the other participants land on their own track.
When you are asked
Once, the first time you press record. macOS shows its own system dialog. JesRecap never asks for a password and never installs anything to get around the prompt. After that, recordings start without interruption.
Why a microphone alone is not enough
Recording the room through the microphone would pick up your speakers as a faint echo mixed into your own voice. Tapping the process audio directly keeps the two sides separate, so you can play back or export either side on its own.
Nothing leaves the Mac because of it
The permission grants local access, not network access. The captured audio is written to disk on your Mac and transcribed there. JesRecap has no upload path for meeting content at all.
If you ever declined the prompt, you can turn it back on in System Settings under Privacy & Security, then start a new recording. Your microphone permission is separate and is requested the same way.
What you get after the meeting
Two tracks plus a mix
A microphone WAV, a system-audio WAV, and a mixed playback file. Export any of the three.
A local transcript
The Parakeet speech model runs on the Mac after you press Stop. It downloads once from models.jesrecap.com and is reused after that. There is no live transcript during the meeting.
Speaker names
Add a speaker name to any transcript segment by hand. There is no automatic speaker detection.
Meeting actions
Copy a ready-made prompt with the transcript included, then paste it into whichever AI you already use. JesRecap sends nothing itself.
Exports
Markdown notes, plain text, a JSON archive, SRT and VTT captions, and the WAV audio.
A searchable library
Every meeting stays in the sidebar, stored in a local SQLite database next to the audio files.
macOS questions
Will it work with Zoom, Teams, Meet or Webex?
Yes, and with anything else your Mac can play. JesRecap records the audio coming out of your machine rather than integrating with a specific meeting service, so Slack huddles, browser calls and phone calls on speaker all work the same way. In-person conversations are captured through the microphone alone.
Does anyone in the call see that I am recording?
No participant or bot is added, and no meeting service is notified. That also means telling the other people in the room or on the call is your responsibility, so please do.
Is a kernel extension or virtual audio driver installed?
No. JesRecap uses the Core Audio process-tap interface that macOS provides, which is why the permission prompt exists. There is nothing to uninstall beyond the app itself.
Where are my recordings stored?
In JesRecap's own folder inside your Mac's Application Support directory: the WAV files plus a SQLite database with the meeting metadata and transcripts. Deleting the folder deletes the data, because that is the only copy.
Do I have to be online?
To download the speech model the first time, to start the trial or activate your license, and for periodic license checks and update checks. After that, recording and transcription work offline, for up to 30 days between license checks on a paid license.
Can I install it on my MacBook and my iMac?

Can I re-run transcription later?
Yes. Both source tracks are kept on disk, so any meeting in your library can be transcribed again.
